Kangaroo Island

8 Day Itinerary - American River, Seal Bay, Remarkable Rocks, Cape Gantheaume NP, Cape Willoughby

Australia’s 3rd largest island, situated off the coast of South Australia, has a rural setting with 25% of the land devoted to National Parks and reserves. Many of the feral animals, such as rabbits, have not been introduced to the island, therefore the natural habitat is in pristine condition. Spectacular coastal scenery is coupled with a European history dating to the 1820s. From our base camps the bushwalks take us through some of the best areas at Flinders Chase and Kelly Hill. Also included are visits to the seal colony, Kelly Hill Caves, Kingscote, American River and some iconic lighthouses.

Day 1 -Depart Adelaide early to catch the ferry from Cape Jervis to Penneshaw. Then picturesque American River for lunch and Seal Bay to mingle with Australian sea lions before making camp near Flinders Chase. (5 nights)

Day 2 - We travel to Kelly Hill Caves to walk through Sugar Gum country, lagoons, wooded sand hills, and along the South West River to the wild coastline of Hanson Bay. (9 Kms)

Day 3 - A visit to Cape de Couedic on the south west tip of the Island to view Admirals Arch and Remarkable Rocks. Then we visit West Bay before an afternoon walk to look for platypus.

An afternoon drive to the eastern end of the island to Cape Willoughby, where we find out all about the early settlers on a lighthouse tour, then a drive to Penneshaw returning via ferry to the mainland and back to Adelaide.
