2026 Itinerary amended to finish in Alice Springs (Kununurra through Timber Creek & Renner Springs)

23 Day Itinerary - Tanami Desert, Kununurra, Gibb River Road, Derby, Broome, Purnululu NP

Starting from Alice Springs, we head north west across the Tanami Track, visiting the Wolfe Creek meteorite crater before heading into Kununurra. We visit Lake Argyle and experience the Ord River by jetboat. The Gibb River Road leads us to Mornington Sanctuary, Windjana Gorge & Tunnel Creek. Beyond this we discover Derby, Broome & Geikie Gorge where we cruise on the mighty Fitzroy River. Next we make a bee-line for Purnululu National Park (The Bungles), with a three night stop, giving us plenty of time to relax.

Day 1 - We depart Alice Springs and head north west across the Tanami desert toward WA.(bush camp)

Day 2 - We cross into WA heading for Sturt Creek. An afternoon visit to Wolfe Creek meteorite crater then into Halls Creek.

Day 3 - North to Kununurra for a three night stop in the caravan park on the banks of Lake Kununurra.

Day 4 -A morning walk in Mirima National Park and a drive around the Ord River Scheme followed by a relaxing afternoon

Day 5 - A day trip north to historic Wyndham with its expansive lookout over Cambridge Gulf and Parry Lagoons NR.

Day 6 - We head west along the Gibb River Road to Mt Elizabeth Station.

Day 7 - The day spent exploring Mt Elizabeth.

Day 8 - Along the Gibb River Road to Mornington Wilderness camp set in the heart of the King Leopold Ranges for a 3 night camp.

Day 9 - We explore Diamond Gorge and swim at Cadjeput Waterhole.

Day 10 -A day spent walking and swimming at Sir John Gorge.

Day 11 - To Bell Gorge to camp and explore this delightful waterfall.

Day 12 - To Windjana Gorge to camp with a visit to Tunnel Creek in the afternoon.

Day 13 - A mornings walk in Windjana gorge then down into Derby caravan park.

Day 14 - Travel on to Broome for a 3 night camp in a caravan park.

Day 15 - Discover Broome township and delightful Cable Beach.

Day 16 - A free day for re-stocking and resting with many different options available.

Day 17 - To Fitzroy Crossing then on towards Halls Creek camping along the way.

Day 18 -Into Purnululu (Bungle Bungle National Park) for a 3 night camp.

Day 19 - Exploring Cathedral Gorge, Echidna Chasm and Piccaninny Gorge.

Day 20 - More time exploring Cathedral Gorge, Echidna Chasm and Piccaninny Gorge.

Day 21 -We travel back to Kununurra arriving mid-afternoon.

Day 22 - Into the NT we head for Timber Creek and Victoria River.

Day 23 - From Victoria River we head up into Darwin arriving late afternoon.
