Gawler Ranges & Eyre Peninsula
13 Day Itinerary - Lake Gairdner, Gawler Ranges NP, Hiltaba, Mt St Mungo, Coffin Bay & Lincoln NP
The Gawler Ranges region boasts magnificent volcanic rock formations, providing a landscape as rich in beauty as it is in iron ore deposits. Bushwalks in such dramatic settings contrast the calm and atmospheric beauty of camping on the edge of Lake Gairdner - a perfect start to your journey around the Eyre Peninsula. Along secluded beaches and over windswept cliffs, treading where early seafaring explorers once stood, you’ll lap up the natural aura of this stunning coastline.
Day 1 - Depart Adelaide, travelling via Port Augusta then west into the Gawler Ranges to camp on the edge of Lake Gairdner.
Day 2 - A morning walk around the edge of Lake Gairdener before moving into the Gawler Ranges National Park. (2 night camp)
Day 3 - Walk in the Gawler Ranges exploring the magnificent features of an ancient landscape formed 1500 million years ago.
Day 4 - Drive to Pretty Point situated on Hiltaba Nature Reserve, now owned and run by the Nature Foundation. (3 night camp)
Day 5 -We drive out and climb Mt St Mungo which overlooks the Lake Acraman meteorite crater which is 580 million years old.
Day 6 - We walk the Warren Bonython walking trail which takes us up Mt Hiltaba.
Day 7 - Crossing the Eyre Highway our route takes us to the coast at Venus Bay, then south east to Coffin Bay National Park. (3 night camp)
Day 8 - We drive into Coffin Bay National Park and explore the scenic coastline and beautiful beaches on foot and by road.
Day 9 - We climb Mt Greenly and visit
Coles Point.
Day 10 -To Port Lincoln and a visit to the scenic Whalers Way before heading down into the Lincoln National Park. (2 night camp)
Day 11 - A day walk in Lincoln National Park.
Day 12 - We head into Port Lincoln and spend the morning looking around the township before heading further north to Whyalla.
Day 13 -Return to Adelaide via Melrose & Laura, arriving in Adelaide late afternoon.
Itineraries may change depending on local circumstances such as NP access, weather or road conditions
